Called to be an apostle is literally a called apostle. As is evident from 1 and 2 Corinthians, Paul’s standing and authority as an apostle were not appreciated among the Christians of Corinth. Called to be an apostle: At the outset of the letter – indeed, the very first few words – Paul fearlessly declares his apostolic credentials. But because of all the time Paul spent in Corinth, and all the letters he wrote them, we know more about the Christians at Corinth than we know about any other church in the New Testament.ī. Then Paul wrote 1 Corinthians to respond to these reports. Paul then received reports from people in Chloe’s household about disturbances in Corinth (1 Corinthians 1:11) and he may have received a delegation from Corinth (1 Corinthians 16:7) who brought him questions from the congregation (1 Corinthians 7:1). He wrote a letter to the Christians in Corinth from the city of Ephesus (Acts 19), which is mentioned in 1 Corinthians 5:9. Paul had an extensive history of contact with the city of Corinth, beginning with when he established the church in Corinth, coming there after Athens and staying a year and a half (Acts 18). In the ancient culture of Paul, a letter began with writing who the letter is from, and then stating who the letter is to. We write a letter by saying who the letter is to first, and we conclude with writing who the letter is from. Paul: The apostle Paul follows the normal pattern for writing a letter in ancient times. I just can't see myself buying 66 of these to cover every book of the Bible.A. BUT if it was incorporated INTO a Bible study I would be interested. I don't see myself using it because I already have this same material in my various study Bibles and commentaries. I bought this because it was on one of the frequent DGC sales and I was curious. (2) Alternately, it would be GREAT to incorporate this same exact material into the already created various DGC studies, in the front matter, like in say the Bible study on Romans, insert these pages into that book IR create them as a separate printable PDF that would fit on regular copy paper (could be trimmed down at home) OR a purchased pamphlet that can fit into the books you already sell (so, two size options for the bigger or smaller studues you sell). I guess I'm disappointed because (1) I'd like to see this in Old and New Testament sets (say, wisdom, poetry, history, etc) with maybe the Bible book already listed in the Book By Book, with the rest left blank as it already is to be filled out as I go along in my personal Bible reading.

As you read the Bible book this little book directs you to look for the theme and topics as well as you're reading.

The premise is good, as the outline walks you thru all the pre-reading background info needed to put the actual book into historical context, then asks about the author and audience, etc much like you'd do for verse mapping. It is only meant for ONE Bible book (so, like the book of Daniel or Galatians), not multiples. Maybe should've read the description a bit closer, but was disappointed by this tool.
